Environment Artist
Although the bulk of my experience has been creating environments, I don’t consider myself just an environment artist. I feel comfortable creating any kind of art asset. The experience I have gained over the past 10 years has been on a wide range of genres; racing, action adventure, vehicular combat, first person shooter, fighter, and plat-former. The range in styles is just as varied, from stylistic to very realistic.
Art
I am an artist at heart, so for me, the computer is just a tool. I spend a lot of time outdoors, painting on location (plein air). Hours of studying the nuances of nature and how light reacts to different subjects in different settings, has enhanced my skills creating CG environments. While constantly learning the technology of my trade, I’m eager to seek out opportunities to further develop my artistic instincts through traditional mediums. Training with traditional mediums has had a profound impact on my contribution to each project.
Design
I’ve had the responsibility of being a level lead on numerous projects. Over time I have assumed more of a role of being a game developer in addition to being an artist. It is critical for me to understand the intent of the game’s designers in order to create the levels with the desired effectiveness. By acting as an intermediary between art and design, I’m able to raise the visual bar for the final product.
Tech
Thinking “outside the box” allows me to create the best visual quality art for a game. Although my role is art bound, I’m always keen to solve problems by being creative with the existing tech available. Some of my ideas have even helped to develop new tech/tools within my team(s). As a result, I’m known for squeezing every bit of eye candy to the limits of the platform and project.
